It was one of those arguments. The kind that two stubborn, hot-tempered people get into where neither one wants to admit he or she is wrong.

But this time, before Red had a chance to storm out, or she turned around and locked herself in her office, Vickie throttled her anger down and held out the box of truffles.

He looked at them. Looked at her. Looked at them again. He knew what they were. She'd told him. Told him what they did, what she had done.

Deliberately she took one, and just as deliberately, put it in her mouth. After a moment, so did he.

She wasn't going to tell him exactly what memory she relived, and she didn't expect him to. But she watched as his expression softened, and she knew hers was doing the same.

Finally...."I'm an asshole," he said. Quietly.

"I'm another. We deserve each other." She shook her head. "But pretty much most of the things I want to remember are tied up with you."

He nodded his head. "Pretty much here, too."

She took a deep breath. "OK. Let's sit down and work this out like a couple of adults instead of a couple of kids. Though I think you were more like thirteen, and I was more like nine about an hour ago."

He laughed. "Funny. I was about to say the same."

She molded into his side. Dammit he was tall. "On the couch. So you don't tower over me."

They laughed. And somehow, worked it out.
