Vlada lay in the bed, sleepily watching Soyuz’ fingers trace and play with the thick hair on his chest as she lay curled tight to his side. She was taller, more muscular and larger than he was, due to her transformation, but there was nothing masculine about her. He stroked her hair and she nuzzled closer into his neck. He lightly kissed the top of her head. She looked up and they kissed again. Ribbons of flame shot down her bare back. “Is good thing you have flame proof bedding, da?”

Soyuz grabbed the sheet and covered the both of them. “Do not make fun. Is not always easy to keep the fire within when you are making me…excited.” She blushed and he smiled. Not just feminine, but demure and delicate. She was all he could want in a woman.

He tousled her har and kidded the top of her head again. “Do not be so. You know I am meaning nothing by it.”

Soyuz closed her eyes and rested her head on his chest. “I know, my love. It is hard. When we are here, I want to be nowhere else.” She wrapped an arm around his waist and pulled tight to him. “I just…I wonder…”

Vlada closed his eyes and nodded. The same thoughts had been plaguing him. “It will last until it is over. Whenever that is.”

“I feel terrible for Althea. She is worried sick.” Her voice dropped. “But…”

Vlada’s brow furrowed. “Shto? What is?”

She hugged him tightly and kissed his ribs. “Getting Alexei back means you will leave.”

Vlada sat up and took her face in his hands. This had been foremost in his thoughts since the two of them had gone from colleagues to lovers. “Nothing in life is certain. When we find someone who makes us happy, we do not know if it is for today or for the rest of forever.” He leaned forward and kissed her. “We have to find Alexei, and I have to return to my time. These are things that must come to pass.” He pulled her close and wrapped his arms around her. “We have now. Let us live for now. Let tomorrow bring what it will.” He rose from the bed. “Come.”

She took his hand. “Where are we going?”

Vlada smiled. “A shower. Then into uniform and patrols.”

Soyuz smiled and rose, her other hand trailing across his bare abdomen. “You will wash my back, da?”

Vlada only grinned.
