Zachary Marlowe fell asleep in an awkward position. Seated on a chair next to Bella's bedside, his right hand holding her right hand, his face smushed into the side of the hospital bed. He had passed out like that, but given the activities of the past few days, no one was going to disturb him. Truth be told, Commissar Bestial Boy of the CCCP had never had a better rest in his life.

"She's going to make it!" was the last thing Zachary thought before the days of little sleep and stress caught up to him, and his face hit the bed.

When he finally came to, he noticed that the color (a healthy blue, of course) had returned to Belladonna's face, and that she was breathing steadily. Not letting go of her hand, with his free hand he stroked the hair away from her face. The face that was burned into his heart, the face that he thought he had lost forever.

As he touched her, her soft, luminous blue eyes opened. Licking her dry lips, she smiled and rasped, "Hey there, I know you..."

Zach's face lit up, the weight of the past few days evaporating from his body. Smiling, he stroked her hair. "Hey there, yerself, baby girl." For a moment, he said nothing else, just basking in the joy of seeing her alive and well. He poured her some Kora juice from the bedside stand, and helped her drink it.

"You know, you had me worried there for a minute."

Bella's eyes were wide and alert as ever, and now suffused with a soft blue glow.

"Oh....only for a minute, huh? Glad I didn't worry you too much."

Zach smiled from ear to ear.

"Still, I think I'll have to keep a closer eye on you from now on. Y'know...just to make sure you don't explode or anything."

Bella smiled back warmly. "Yeah...I hate when that happens."

Zach leaned in and kissed her on the forehead. "I'm not kidding, you know. Good luck getting out of my sight for the next few weeks." His smile faded for a minute, and he took on a serious tone. "I love you, ya know?"

Bella nodded slowly. "I do know that. I never doubted that."

Zach caressed her face and gazed into her eyes. "Good. Now don't you EVER, EVER do that again, capice?"

She coughed, and let herself fall into his emerald gaze. “I didn’t plan it the first time.” She sobered. “I—love, you know—what we are, the way we live, I can’t promise anything except that—that—“

“Shh.” He put one finger over her lips. “That poem of yours…”

She blushed indigo. “Yeah…mushy.”

“But…right.” He nodded. “That old boy had it right. You deserve to be loved forever, but we don’t have forever. So—“

“So I promise you everything I have for as long as I have—“ then her eyes twinkled with humor. “And I promise you’re gonna have to run hard to keep up.”

He pulled her into his arms. “That’s my girl.”

She closed her eyes and let herself be embraced and supported, for soon enough, their positions would be reversed. And reversed again. And reversed again. That was how it was, when two people loved each other enough to make that kind of promise.

“You’re my star,” she murmured.

Thus, though we cannot make our sun
Stand still, yet we will make him run.

((Thus concludes A Fine and Private Place Belladonna Aura and Bestial Boy will be continuting their adventures togeether in another story arc))

((This was a heck of a roller coaster ride, folks. Hope you enjoyed it.))
